We’ve always said that as long as there is a food desert within our own community, our work is never finished. That is why Tiger Corner Farms proudly partners with schools, nonprofits, and local initiatives as we together strive to combat the issues of healthy eating, food supply and job creation.
Change comes with small steps, which is why we’re especially proud of our work in 2017 alone: we began providing hyper-local greens for school lunches, promoted new sustainable agriculture programs here in Charleston, and enhanced existing course work with fresh ideas on innovative farming methods.
In partnership with the Ashley Ridge High School Agriculture Program and Vertical Roots, we bring more than 2,000 heads of fresh lettuce into school lunches every week! Agriculture students learn how our systems work and the differences between traditional farming and aeroponics.
Cadets earning a sustainability/environmental studies minor are running one of our farms as part of their coursework. The produce they grow remains on campus and is served in the mess hall. Now that’s smart eating!
Our company began by seeing a need in our own community: not enough people have access to fresh, healthy food. We believe that our container farm systems have the potential to transform areas by empowering individuals to grow whenever, wherever they live.
